R-22, brand name Freon, is being phased out.
According to the EPA pamphlet Phasing Out HCFC Refrigerants To Protect The Ozone Layer, due to its ozone-depleting properties, the production and importation of R-22 were further restricted in 2010. By 2020, the production and importation of R-22 ceased entirely.
No immediate change is needed. As detailed in the EPA handout Residential Air Conditioning and the Phaseout of HCFC-22, while the production and importation of HCFC-22 (R-22) in the U.S. has ceased, individuals are permitted to utilize HCFC-22 in their current systems for as long as required.
